Emme's 11th Birthday

Emme's mom told that Emme loves pink and fancy!  This is the cake I came up with.  Ombre buttercream roses, bling, and a big beautiful flower are finished off with Emme's name in pink edible paper.  The cake is chocolate!  Mmmm....

97th Birthday!

I was asked to make a sheet cake for a man turning 97!  His daughter gave me a file full of pictures and told me she wanted some to do with the his time in the Army.  I'm a digital scrapbooker, so I pulled up Scraps N' Pieces digital kit "Proud to be an American" and put this together for the top of the cake.

I had it printed on edible paper and edged it with buttercream icing.  The family loved it!

Gabby's Sweet 16

Gabby's mom told me that Gabby likes Purple and Polka Dots.... other than that, I got to do whatever I wanted for the cake.  I didn't want anything that was too girly or young, so I was happy to find some purple polka dot digital paper.  I had it printed on edible paper, along with the birthday sentiment for the top.  I wanted it to look like a present and I think it turned out pretty cool.  Happy 16th Birthday, Gabby!

Cracked Water Pot Cake

This was a awesome cake to make!  I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and our women's organization is the Relief Society.  I was asked to make a cake for an activity.  The theme was "Be a Cracked Pot" and here is what I came up with for the cake and the story behind the theme:

A water bearer in India had two large pots, each hung on one end of the pole he carried across the back of his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, and while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream, the cracked pot arrived only half full. This went on every day for two years, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots of water to his master’s house.

Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishment and saw itself as perfectly suited for the purpose for which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its imperfection and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do. After two years of what it perceived as bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream. “I am ashamed of myself and I want to apologize to you.”

“Why?” asked the bearer. “What are you ashamed of?”

“For the past two years, I have been able to deliver only half my load because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your master’s house. Because of my flaws you have to work without getting the full value of your efforts,” the pot said.

The water bearer felt sorry for the old cracked pot, and out of compassion he said, “As we return to the master’s house, I want you to notice the beautiful flowers along the path.” Indeed, as they went up the hill, the old cracked pot took notice of the sun warming the wildflowers on the side of the path. The pot felt cheered.

But at the end of the trail, the pot still felt bad because it had leaked out half its load, and again it apologized for its failure. The bearer said to the pot, “Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of your path, but not on the other pot’s side? That’s because I knew about your flaw and took advantage of it. I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back from the stream, you’ve watered them for me. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate my master’s table. If you were not just the way you are, he would not have such beauty to grace his house.

Moral: Each of us has his/her unique flaws—we are all cracked pots. But a compassionate and expert devotee can engage us in the Lord’s service, and then we can all be useful, despite our defects.

Julian's 1st Birthday Cake

This cake was for a little boy's first birthday.  Julian loves swimming and his dog, Charlie.  His mom asked me to incorporate both into the cake, so the bottom layer is a nautical theme and Charlie is hanging out on the top of the cake.  I love the soft blues and greens on this cake.
The top layer is a 4 inch smash cake for the birthday boy.

LaNette's Gender Reveal Cake

The new Mommy-to-be wanted a gender reveal cake with a Lips and Mustaches theme.  I love the black and white with a touch of pink.  The cake was Pink, by the way!!!  Congratulations to Team Lips!

Brookelynn's Disney Frozen Cake

"Do you wanna build a snowman?" I can't tell you how long that cute song was stuck in my head.  The whole time I made this cake we had to listen to the music from the movie.  The cake is chocolate, covered in fondant.  The snowflakes are edible paper and the bling on the cake is sugar crystals.  A cute cake for a darling little 6 year old.  The figurines are from the Disney Store.

A Minion for Dane

Minions!  We love them!!!  Minions are a popular character for cakes.  Dane wanted a purple minion with funny hair, but changed his mind and wanted a yellow minion with two eyes.  This is a chocolate cake.  Because the cake is so tall, it is important to support it inside.  This cake is actually two tiers covered in fondant.  Happy Birthday, Dane!

A Minion for Chance

Who doesn't love minions?  Chance wanted "Bob" the minion for his birthday cake.  The cake is 9 inches in diameter and about 12 inches tall.  It was so fun to make.  The goggles have an edible silver paint.  I hope the birthday boy loved it!

Kimber's 1st Birthday

It was so fun doing this cake.  The ladybug was strawberry cake, so when they cut into it, it would be pink!  The rest was chocolate with buttercream icing. I use a high quality fondant that tastes like buttercream icing.
